Why Should You Experience Cherry Picking At Northhill Orchard

What could be so great about a cherry orchard? Why shouldn’t I just go to my local giant and get my cherries there? Why should I waste my time there?

These are questions you might ask yourself. And we don’t blame you. If you’re unfamiliar with fruit orchards and pick your own orchards, it can be uncomfortable deciding if you should go.

At the end of the day, the choices you make are yours. But the experience of walking through an orchard. Feeling the summer sun on your back, with the breeze on your face. Seeing your family run around the orchard is a special moment. We want people to walk through our orchard, take in the sights, enjoy a day with their family and be outside.

Another reason is the taste of our fruits. Many fruits that you can get at a grocery store are filled with hormones and other chemicals that alter the taste. We follow a more holistic approach at our cherry orchard. Letting nature do the work, and taking our time to cultivate every single fruit. No chemicals, no hormones, no man-made products to alter anything.

Although not as common in grocery stores, these cherries are sweet and have a taste that is unlike any other! These cherries are available in June so don’t miss out!

dark sweet cherries

Dark Sweet Cherries

There are only a few culinary pleasures that are above being able to eat a bowl full of dark sweet cherries that are straight off the tree. Some varieties include chelan, lapin, sunburst, and bing cherries. These cherries are ones you are probably familiar with and there is a reason why they are so popular! Dark sweet cherries begin to ripen in June and can last all summer!

Other than the delicious taste of these cherries, they are also known to reduce heart disease and hypertension. A sweet treat with health benefits, who wouldn’t want that?

Sour Cherries

Sour cherries are also another popular option for lots of people… but not for the reason you’d think. Whereas you can pick sweet cherries off the tree and enjoy them, sour cherries are more popular in baking. Yes, you can still just eat them as they are but 99% of the cherry centered fruits you eat, like jam and preserves, use sour cherries.

Sweet cherries are way too high in sugar to balance and can be a hit or miss. If you’re coming to our orchard to look for baking materials, look no further than our sour cherries!
